FROM THE PRESiDENT

It is that time of year when we make our resolutions and reaffirm that "this year will be different", yet somehow even before January ends this year starts to look strikingly similar to the one that just ended. In most cases, the only thing that changed was the date. Our high hopes for all-star business results are dashed and somehow we become mired again in the same repetitive cycle. The futility and frustration of the tedium of the daily work environment overtake and dash our lofty goals.

How does it happen? I've heard so many take credit for the following idiom I have no idea where it started, but its application is broad. Management insanity is best defined as doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results. I know I have been guilty in the past of trying to "wish" things better. Armed with finest of projections and goals, off I would march in pursuit of improvement and even excellence only to have my best efforts thwarted. They failed because I used the same methods that had produced only mediocre results in the past. Innovation and experiment was not part of the everyday vocabulary. The default position was to do it the way it has always been done. Implied in the method was there would be a better outcome. Therein lies the true insanity. Why will the same method produce a different outcome?

With the new year and new business plans, have you looked at your organization and methods? Think about the simpler things. Are your daily activities and those of your workers consistent with the goals you now have? Remember synergy is important in all aspects of your organization if your organization is going to grasp the golden ring of your profession. It is time to redouble efforts to make sure we are not working towards this year's goals with last year's methods.

Here is to achieving excellence in our business goals in 2005!

Greetings!

Happy New Year! There is no doubt that the majority of us entered the new year with renewed business goals for the most successful year yet. It is equally likely that many of us have already lost sight of the plans to achieve our visions of grandeur. Tim discusses this phenomenon in the feature article and provides inspiration for maintaining focus in the new year.

Additionally, we present the 2005 HRi calendar of events, and welcome clients to contact us if they desire a customized calendar specific to their schedule.

In our Meet HRi section, we introduce Alison Lalla, a Payroll Specialist. Finally, we invite each of you to participate in an employee poll.
