FROM THE PRESiDENT

A recent study indicates that 36% of
senior business executives believe that their employees care about the
success of their business. It is not a new belief; however, executives are
paying closer attention to this idea. Organization leaders notice a
significant link between employee motivation and success. A highly
motivated workforce will likely produce higher quality outputs. As a
result, managers are looking for ways to increase and measure motivation.
This may also provides valuable insight into the success or failures of HR
initiatives.
To begin, an organization must first
determine how to measure motivation among its workforce. Many companies are
now conducting employee surveys online. This method is believed superior to
phone surveys because respondents tend to be more candid when they are not
speaking to someone directly.
Some things to consider before conducting
an employee motivation survey are:
- Be sure to communicate the reasons for conducting the survey
before you deploy it. Staff will be wary of providing honest answers,
so explain exactly what you are doing, why you are doing it and how
the entire process will work.
- Be prepared to act on findings. The entire process will be
counter-productive if it raises expectations and leaves them
unfulfilled.
- Gain "buy-in" from senior management. A sincere
commitment to listen to employee views and to act and improve
motivation is essential to the success of your initiative.
- Companies that conduct motivation surveys and manage them
properly usually find the process extremely useful.
HRi offers this service free of charge to
all clients. We will work with you to communicate the survey intentions
with your staff and help you to develop a survey that will measure
motivation. We will create an online survey for you and compile your
results when the survey is finished. We will help you analyze the output
and aid in developing an action plan to improve motivation among your
staff. If you are interested in conducting a motivation survey, or any
other online survey, please contact Jena Weigel at jweigel@hri-online.com
